Beta-Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (β-hCG)
Beta-Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (β-hCG)
This assay is intended for the quantitative determination of beta-Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (β-hCG) in human serum and plasma. β-hCG is a glycoprotein hormone produced by the placenta during pregnancy, consisting of two subunits: alpha and beta. The beta subunit is unique to hCG and provides specificity for pregnancy detection. β-hCG levels rise rapidly in early pregnancy, doubling approximately every 48-72 hours during the first trimester. This test is essential for early pregnancy confirmation, monitoring pregnancy progression, detecting ectopic pregnancies, and assessing the risk of miscarriage. β-hCG is also used as a tumor marker for certain cancers, including testicular cancer, ovarian cancer, and gestational trophoblastic disease. Additionally, it helps monitor treatment effectiveness in patients with hCG-producing tumors.
