Testosterone
Testosterone
This assay is used for the in vitro quantitative detection of testosterone (T) levels in human serum and plasma. Testosterone, with a molecular weight of 288 Daltons, is primarily produced by the testicular stromal cells in men under the regulation of luteinizing hormone and hypothalamic-pituitary feedback mechanisms. It plays a key role in developing male secondary sexual characteristics, maintaining libido, erectile function, and overall physical strength. In women, testosterone testing helps diagnose androgen excess conditions such as androgen syndrome, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and adrenal or ovarian tumors. In men, it aids in identifying testosterone deficiency disorders, including hypogonadism, chromosomal abnormalities like Klinefelter syndrome, and liver disease. Common testing methods include immunofluorescence and chemiluminescence.
